Precision Investment Casting Process

Today, investment casting is synonymous with accuracy. As precision investment casting manufacturers, we use a tried-and-tested process that ensures compliance with design and application standards.

Wax Pattern

Injecting wax into molds to create accurate wax patterns and attaching them to a runner.

Shell Building

Dipping the wax runner multiple times into a ceramic slurry and coating with zircon sand between each dip.

Dewaxing

Melting the wax mold to leave behind an accurate negative space.

Pouring

Precision pouring the molten alloy into the hollow ceramic shells.

Separation & Finishing

Knocking out the newly formed castings and separating them from the runner.

Secondary Operations

Machining, heat treating, and surface treating the investment castings.

Inspection

Multiple checks using various modern instruments to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Quality assurance checks span our production process, beginning with sand and binder testing, followed by material testing, and culminating with non-destructive testing.

Precision Investment Casting Application

Being a reliable precision investment casting manufacturer, we produce near-net-shape output. This translates to minimal tooling and a high degree of geometric accuracy.

As such, our products are used in various industries, including:

  • Automotive: The industry depends on precision investment casting to produce engines, transmissions, and other intricate components.
  • Aerospace: High-precision parts like turbine blades and manifold components are produced using investment casting.
  • MedTech: Surgical instruments require high tolerance and exactness; precision investment casting manufacturers serve that need.
  • Food Processing: Lost-wax casting produces precise slicers, grinders, and processing components that ensure safety and prevent tool wear.
  • General Engineering: Components for valves and pumps are produced using investment casting because of near-net shape output.

Note: Application-specific custom precision investment casting solutions are available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is all investment casting precision investment casting?

No, not all investment casting is precision investment casting. While precision and investment casting are synonymous, the degree of precision depends on the manufacturer’s capabilities. Precision is possible only with skilled workers, contemporary facilities, and extensive casting experience.

2. Why do you use Zircon sand instead of Silica?

We use Zircon in our stucco over Silica because Zircon has a low thermal expansion rate. Using Zircon ensures precise casts, the primary step in casting precision components.

3. Is VDG P 690 D1 tolerance possible for all dimensions?

Yes, D1 is achievable, but it is reserved for critical components. D2 is the more cost-effective and preferred standard for industries.

4. How do you ensure precision across the production process?

To ensure precision, we create our casts using Zircon sand. We run checks for wax and binders, including wax content, congealing point, SiO2, PH, and gravity tests. The final product is tested on a universal testing machine, a hardness testing machine, and undergoes NDT and spectrometer analysis.
